Phiroz,
As desired, I will discuss only pharma aspect.
Diclofenac has adverse reactions even on patients yet it is prescribed to patients with joint problems. In all countries politics is depends on industry for donations to political parties. Pharma Companies in U.S. have a lot of clout. Unless a cheap but equally effective substitute is marketed, Diclofenac will continue to be used.Acelofenac preparations are found to have less adverse effects on consumers but is less effective. It is more expensive. Price of Celecoxib is rather prohibitive. What effect these two drugs have on birds of prey needs to be studied.
Tro the best of my knowledge in U.S. Diclofenac is still being manufactured and prescribed.

No it is not banned!
http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/fda-extends-review-of-pennsaidr-diclofenac-sodium-topical-solution-62144977.html.

I'm sure your aware that Voltaren is still used..I'm no authority on Pharma so will bow out of further discussion. The only reason I know that is a relative (sister) used the stuff.

I have no interest in discussing the religious or tradition aspects as I'm a secular humanist. I was interested in this method of dealing with the carcasses of humans no longer functional and too toxic to bury or part out.

However, killing other creatures in the process makes this method not an acceptable alternative.

Nichols,
In US is diclofenac banned. This is a genuine query. My information is that it still used in developed countries. One of the manufacturer is reported to be Pfizer.
In India, many drugs banned elsewhere in the developed world are still manufactured e.g. CISAPRIDE. Another dangerous drug still manufactured and sold in India is Phenylpropanolamine.
Pharma lobby will not allow ban on Diclofenac in immediate future and needs of our community are immediate remedial measures and NOT what can PERHAPS/PROBABLY fructify after 10 - 15 years.
We as a community can not squander Charity funds on experiments for the rest of the Universe to learn at our cost.Awaiting your reply/clarification.
Thanks,
REMAINING BLOGGERS MAY NOTE THAT I AM NOT INTERESTED IN A DIALOGUE ARISING FROM A TRADOITION/RELIGIOUS POINT OF VIEW BUT MY AIM IS KNOW CORRECT POSITION WITH REGARD TO DICLOFENAC.
I WILL NOT ENTER INTO A SENSELESS DIALOGUE WITH THOSE HAVING NO KNOWLEDGE IN THE FIELD OF PHARMA MANUFACTURING.

My awareness of the Parsi tradition of dealing with the dead piqued my interest while lying in my bed in the middle of Texas. My question centers around the environmental effects of most Americans remains considering they may be considered toxic waste. If there were such "resting" sites for human remains in America would the EPA monitor them?
Are there any such sites in the western hemisphere? I'd consider
dealing with remains in the Parsi manner to be highly practical and energy efficient baring the bio-hazzard to the birds.

Challenges for the whole world and the world has taken this up due to the importance.Dangers from Diclofenac pesists, yet even this is being tackled...

Eyeopener is the fact of Vultures lining up in urban areas of Delhi...
Another fact is the sucess of aviary projects and world wide concerns and battle for vulture conservation and technological improvement and scientific methods adapted to save the vultures...all showcasing that abandaning the projects though tough and challenging is not an option..and deemed unmodern!!

This challenge will also see another battle...The battle of the Zoroaastrians..the ones that will use modern technology, scientific backing, expertise and world support to strenghten their system on one hand and on the other hand , the ones that will rejoice at such challennges not to face them but to shelter in them to thwart modern process of preserving!!
