Former Ranji trophy cricketer Soli Patel dies

Jamshedpur, Aug 12 (PTI) Former Ranji trophy cricketer of undivided Bihar, Soli Patel passed away after losing his battle with throat cancer here.

Patel was 81 and who was keeping unwell for the past several months. He breathed his last yesterday, Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) sources said.

Patel is survived by two sons and a daughter. He was cremated at Parsi graveyard in the circuit house area this morning.

Apart from the JSCA officials, several past and present cricketers were took part in the cremation.

JSCA secretary, Rajesh Verma said Patel’s death left a huge vacuum.

"Patel was not only a good cricketer but also a decent individual," he said.

In his 13-year cricket career (1949-62), Patel represented Bihar in 20 matches.
