Tight police bandobast during chief minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Udvada on Sunday was a nightmarish experience for a large number of Parsis. However, police defended the arrangement saying it was necessary from security point of view.
"I didn’t know it was going to be a troublesome affair. I had to walk all the way from Iranshah to the venue. I was exhausted," said Gulbani Irani, 83, who had come from Iran.
Gulistan Daruwala, 57, who is from Pune, visits Udvada every month. She had come to the town leaving her 101-year-old mother at home. It was similar to a punishment, she said, adding "Had I known this is what I would have to suffer here, I would have cancelled my visit."
Police did not allow any vehicle at Udvada town. Around 300 vehicles had come from outside the town. The event organisers had arranged auto-rickshaws to the venue. But the auto-rickshaws were not allowed upto the event.
"I can hardly walk with the stick. However, the police did not listen and forced me to get down from the rickshaw. I requested them to allow me to go in the auto but they refused to listen," said Dhanjisha Tawadia, 83, from Mumbai.
For Thrity Khambhata, 65, of Nasik, it was like a humiliation. "I had to go through so much pain at the holy place. We had come from such a long distance. But we were forced to move out of our holy place because of politicians. I want to complain but don’t know whom to approach," said Khambhata, who had come with a group of women.

Well on a special occasion like this, one should have expected a heavy rush. This was not an everyday affair. Because you have had it very easy and comfortable all your life you must aquaint yourself to some difficulty sometimes. It is just as well that we are a minorest of minorities, what if we were a majority and had to go through such difficulties everytime. Knowing that it was a special occasion God is everywhere at all times you should choose an easier day so as to be comfortable.
I dont agree with the views expressed above. This is a very unfair complaint, as i was personally present there! The police and security were very polite and helpful, inspite of the Z-security requirements for the CM. There were enough rikshas for all. One had to be a little patient and co-operative. Let us learn to be appreciative instead of being critical all the time.
I dont think we had any trouble of that sort, we came comfortably by bus from Bombay which the orgnisers had arranged and then in Udwada we were taken to Iranshah by autorickshaws which were also organised by anjuman. To see the program we were again taken by autorickshaws. There were more than 50 autorickshaws running up and down. When there is a crowd of nearly 4000 people there has to be little discomfort. In our bus also there were 80 years old Parsis but they never made any complaint but on the contrary they were happy to come to Udwada. People who cannot face little discomfort should not go in such a large crowd.

For us Parsis the motto is “Khao, Piyo, Majaa Karo”. When it was announced, everything was free, everybody must have thought let us make the best use of it. They do not think about the sanctity of the holy place but only to go because it is free. What was the necessity of old people who say we can walk only with a stick and persons over 75 persons to join in this mela ? Then why complain. If only people could use their common sense that when ministers are involved, there are bound to be restrictions and security why go ? People only know to complain and complain but why can’t they think of their own health limitations and stay at home ? Iranshah wants people to come to him unconditionally and he would definitely hear our prayers if we pray sincerely even from our homes.

Hi, Can any one help me here. I wish to make a trip to Udvada and am not being able to find an easy way from Pune. They all say i should travel to mumbai and then carry on from there. Any suggestions please.
