Apropos of absolutely nothing at all, I would like to say that whereas the Parsis laid the foundation of Mumbai and gave it some of its most beautiful buildings and colonies, the Gujaratis gave us thalipith, watana shak, methi dhokla and thepla — and frankly I do not know which is the greater contribution.
Apropos of absolutely nothing at all, I would like to say that now that Urmilla Matondkar’s posters are all over town, modelling for a shop called Millionairess, it means her leading lady roles are well and truly over.
Apropos of absolutely nothing at all, I would like to say that no places of worship, not even churches, emanate such a sense of serenity and quietude the way Parsi Fire Temples do.
Apropos of absolutely nothing at all, I would like to say that we cannot consider ourselves an emerging super power, and an Asian Tiger until the last man on the last street corner stops spitting, and if reform is needed in any one area it is in this.
Apropos of absolutely nothing at all, I would like to admit that I have no inkling about what names are appropriate and what are not — I used to think Videocon was a highly inappropriate name for an electronics company — and look what a success it’s been.
Ditto Ronnie Screwalla. With a surname like that who would have thought he’d be the Raja of Bollywood and have his name on the back of buses?

And apropos of absolutely nothing at all, I would like to say that some of the most charming art I have seen of late has been on the rear end of taxis where they write Bhayender and Sion in fancy lettering and then have the most interesting art work around them. And I would like to see an exhibition of this art form in one of the better Galleries — may be Shireen Gandhi’s new one in Fort.
Apropos of absolutely nothing at all, I would like to say that I have mixed feelings about Cadbury chocolates announcing that 2007 has 16 long weekends in it. Not that I am against holidays — it’s just that it does not seem a responsible thing to do — but then again it could be argued that making chocolates is not the most responsible thing to do either.
Apropos of absolutely nothing at all, I would like to say that whereas I used to think that the happiest sound in the world was the tinkle of child’s laugh, today I think it is the whirr and click of a credit card being accepted.
And apropos of absolutely nothing at all, I would like to say that it was not a very easy thing to confess this.
