Happy Mother’s Day

On the occassion of Mother’s Day, Parsi Khabar wishes all the mothers of the world a very special Happy Mother’s Day. We all remember and experience everything that our mothers have done and continue to do so for us in every small and big way. And today is a celebration of the love, sacrifices and unbridled devotion only mothers are capable of.

We would like to bring you a small news article about Parin Ichhaporia that appeared in the TOI today.

Parin Ichhaporia: Motherhood Personified

Whenever she is asked to pose for a photograph, she requests for a comb to straighten her hair and then moves her hand over her face.

She sports a motherly smile and the moment is captured. This is 83-year-old Parsi woman Parin Ichhaporia who resides in Fategunj. Known as the best baby sitter of her times, she personifies selfless motherhood.

She never had her own children. However, each child at her day care centre went on to become a member of her family. Children would play with toys, fight and Ichhaporia would pacify them with stories and lullabies. "I started the centre along with my late husband and helper Laxmi Christian to supplement family income. The first child that came to my centre was my sister’s grandson," recounts Ichhaporia.

Later they advertised in a vernacular daily and started getting huge response from professional working women especially nurses, bank officials and teachers. "Mothers would leave their one-month- old child to us, assured that their baby will be given homely care. Children who came to our centres were free to be themselves, take afternoon naps and their meals were monitored," says Ichhaporia.

The Ichhaporia couple never regretted that they did not have any children of their own. "Time rolled by so fast. My life revolved around kids at my centre who called me mummy’. I became an integral part of their life and vice versa," she recollects.

All those children who grew up in her centre now come to invite her on their weddings and ensure that she is present on the happy occasions of their life. "I am mother to almost 30 children now. I just gave them love and affection when they were growing up and today as adults they are returning the same warmth with respect," she says with pride.
