A humorous take on a very pertinent issue that we all face at some point in our lives.

Good friend of Parsi Khabar, Er. Marzban J. Hathiram write on Frashogard.com

The question is often put to me by many devotees: ‘Dasturji, for how long should we do the Muktad prayers?’ There is really no easy answer to this question. But I generally drive the conversation in the following manner.

Me: It’s all a question of feeling, what we call ‘laagni’ in Gujarati.

Devotee: What do you mean, Dasturji?

Me: How many children do you have?

D: Two (if they say none, then I ask how many children their parents had. Obviously the answer is one or more.)

Me: So how old are they now?

D: Oh, one is 35, married and has a child, the other is 27 and looking around for a good partner. What to do, Dasturji, koi sojju maltuj nathi…

Me: Hmm, so now that they are quite old they must be all leading their separate lives, right?

I personally feel only four days prayers are essential and very compulsory for the soul to reach hell or heaven through meher yazad. that means only charum prayers. Muktad is not at-all essential. Instead, you should donate to really poor and needy by giving them food, clothing or basic necessities. This should be done only after you confirm that they are really poor and needy. I know so many so called poor people personally who have huge bank balances, plenty of gold in their bank lockers and still they will go and collect foodgrains from various charities. Many charities recently opened in mumbai do not at-all check the actual status of the person who is claiming foodgrains from them. It is easy money come and easy money go. It is the donor who is actually loosing on the amount – not the ones who run the charities. Charity Organisations are for helping Rich and Famous and not at-all for poor and needy. So think thousand times before you Donate. God Bless you.
