It’s a joyous morning at the Shapoorji Fakirji Jokhi Agiary at Malabar Hill, awashed with a fresh look on the morning of the most special day of the year – Jamshedi Navroze – the harbinger of spring, new spice and everything nice. And for its populace, the genteel Parsi community, today is an eagerly awaited time.

New blessings
Film-maker Sooni Taraporevala has a special gift this New Year. “My film Little Zizou just won an award in Delhi,” she says, while actor Perizaad Zorabian adds in, “It’s my son Zaayan’s first New Year, so there are new blessings in store.” TV host Parizad Kolah Marshall, who starts her day at the agiary, says “We’re looking forward to celebrating with my brother who is in the Merchant Navy.” Actor Tannaz Irani who is also celebrating son Zeus’ birthday today will be up early to put rangoli and toran outside her home. “We’ll also have mava macchli, which is considered auspicious.”

Jamva Chalo ji!
Comedian and host Cyrus Broacha says food takes over everything at their home. “My friend Kunal who is an honorary Parsi is going to do the ordering,” he smiles. Dance expert Shiamak Davar says, “I’m a complete fan of all Parsi food but two dishes that I must have on this day are prawn patio and saas ni machhi.” Actor Shenaz Treasuryvala seconds the thought. “On Navroze, the menu is usually palav (with nuts and saffron) and fish. Guests are welcomed with a sprinkle of rose water and falooda.”
