In its endeavour to spread awareness about Breast Cancer, Grecian Multi Specialty Hospital in Mohali is organising a series of special seminars on breast cancer. Two symposia were organised at the Government College for Girls in Sector 42 and Khalsa College for Women in Sector 26 on Thursday as a part of the awareness programme.

Similar sessions have already been held in Dev Samaj College for Girls in Sector 45 and HJS Dental College in Sector 25 to enlighten women about the high incidence of breast cancer, the “second largest cancer to occur in the country.”

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Shivpreet Singh Samra, MD, Grecian Hospital said, “Sikh women are second only to Parsi women, in terms of vulnerability to the occurence of breast cancer.” Dr Samra emphasised upon the need of early detection and spoke about the various treatments available.

Shedding more light upon the varied aspects of breast cancer, Dr S S Nimbran, Consultant Oncologist at the hospital stressed that routine self-examination, mammography and annual consultation with a cancer specialist are the best ways to deal with the problem.

Mammography helps in detection in almost 50 per cent cases, explained Dr Nimbran.
