Bangalore’s explosive growth, while triggering a huge demand for living spaces, has caused an acute shortage of land for the dead. The pressure on graveyards is mounting. Here’s a searing look at the problem, made worse by the poorly maintained burial grounds.

In a city where thousands of people struggle for a place to live, it appears even death offers no solution. Graveyards in the City are faced with an acute space crunch, and the rising number of deaths has only aggravated the problem. ……….

……………Even places outside the purview of the BBMP aren’t in great shape either. For instance, some Parsis believe that the tower of silence in Bangalore has become dysfunctional, hence leading to the more convenient options to cremate. One of the members of the small Parsi community in the city believes that the placing of the bodies atop the tower of silence now defeats its own purpose.

“The main point of leaving the bodies atop the tower of silence was to ensure that the carcass will be picked away by vultures in 45 minutes. Now that the vultures themselves are on the verge of extinction, it would be a miracle if the bodies are disposed off in the sun,” said a community member, requesting anonymity.

As times change, we have to move with the times. The elders should apply their minds and come out with a solution keeping in mind the modern times and take a decision jointly.
We see wise people giving good advice in other communities, we should not be left behind. For reference am copying the link of Mr. Asghar Ali Engineer trying to solve the problems in the Muslim community.

We should move with the times, keeping all the message of our Holy Prophet and modifying it as He would have done had he been living today.
    Regards.

Whats so startling, in Mumbai they are disfunctional since two decades and there was an effort to mislead the commuunity members by brainwashing them that an Aviary to rear birds would be set up if WAPIZ guys were elected. The gullible voters gave credence to such bluff masters and till last year a couple of bloggers continued to harp on this topic and condemned all others who called this notion as stupid, by calling them as Dhomgees and Deformists.
This year the fekamfek Trustees have not called Samast Anjuman meeting knowing full well the consequences of thir loudmouthing in the previous meet at Dadar.
Such ‘deeply religious Orthodox’ have proved themselves to be mentally deformed by assuning that I am a female. It seems even Dadar Ormazd has abandoned such born dhongi ‘orthodox’.

The problem is not with the bluff master Trustees but with those simpletons who throng at such meetings to listen to a bagful of lies, distortions and half truths, eat their parcel lunch/dinner pack and assume that such Trustees will deliver goods in good time.
Is it not time to start a signature campaign against irreligious practice of allowing corpses to rot and decompose in the name of ‘Rivaj’.
In fact, a court case ought to be filed against such mealy mouthed Trustees who gave patently false promise of bringing back vultures and have now no explanation to offer for their inability to do so. We should have a right to recall Trustees who got elected on basis of false and misleading promise and get them prosecuted.

Cyrus the Great – Koresh Bozorg was interred in a tomb. He was not consigned to a Dokhma. The tomb stands till today.

The irony is that those who have to eat our dead, are themselves dead.
