image Jimmy Mistry, real-estate developer and entrepreneur presents some of his office work at a TEDx New Delhi.

TEDx events are locally organized events based on guidelines set up by the legendary TED organization.

Jimmy Mistry talks about how he dropped out of Mechanical Engineering college and now hires

architects, interior designers and other professionals to run a turnkey firm specializing in all aspects of architecture, interior design and real-estate development.

In this presentation he talks about his aviary project at the Doongerwadi.

Another project he talks about is the renovation of the Rustam Framna Agiary in the Dadar Parsi Colony. He runs through his research and study of ancient Persian architecture from Persepolis to Pasargade and beyond. Mistry notes the sustainable aspect of this ancient architecture without really backing it up with further facts.

He then uses that as a segway to show a video of the navjote set he recreated for his daughter’s navjote at the Seth Jeejebhoy Dadabhoy Agiary. Ironically the imitation was built and destroyed all in less than a week. That would be a stretch to justify as a sustainable practise.

The last project he shows is the Hilla Towers at the Lalbaug Agiary compound. Here motifs are used from ancient Persia and directly pasted onto a residential building in Mumbai turning it in a Las Vegasesque experience of transplanting icons into a totally uncontextual scenario.

Imitation is the best form of flattery and Mistry’s work is a reflection of this as is most Mumbai architecture is.

Nevertheless, the video makes for some good visuals.
