On that day, it was as though all of Nature rejoiced for this good, kind and benevolent king. It was the day of the Vernal Equinox, a day when light and darkness stand equal on the scales of time and space..
What is the etymology of the word “Jamshedi-Navroze”? How did this term get into our vocabulary? What is it’s significance?
The answer lies in re-winding Persian history to 3,000 years ago on the day when the good King Jamsheed of the Peshdadian Dynasty ascended the throne. THAT day was the very first Jamshedi Navroze, “NAV” meaning new and “ROZ” meaning day. It was the day of the re-awakening of goodness since legend has it that during the reign of Jamsheed, there was no disease and no suffering. What’s more, every human being manifested goodness, joy, happiness and peace – a sort of Utopia!
On that day, it was as though all of Nature rejoiced for this good, kind and benevolent king. It was the day of the Vernal Equinox, a day when light and darkness stand equal on the scales of time and space; when the length of the day equals that of the night. In secret Occult literature of Theosophy and Freemasonry, an equinox is the most “healing” day of the year because there is a flooding of Celestial rays and healing energies showered on planet Earth by the Cosmic forces.
NAV-ROZ – a new day, is the beginning of a new year, a new awakening into an inner sphere of spiritual-consciousness, a new vision in life, a regeneration, rennaisance, almost like a new birth. It is the time of questioning, of looking within oneself, of seeing the millions of miracles that are taking place within us and around us, on this microscopic planet within the vast Universe.
Jamshedi Navroze heralds the season of spring. The season of birth. Birth of new flowers, trees and grass. It’s the time for animals to breed. The time when mother Nature casts off everything that is old, redundant or superfluous, right down to the last leaf of autumn and dresses herself like a young bride in every vibrant colour and hue you can imagine, rejoicing in her own spiritual beauty. In spring, various forms of life emerge in “Divine Order” of Nature’s laws e.g. If you plant a few seeds of chillies next to a few seeds of flowers, the former plant will have the taste and pungency of chillies while the latter will have the sweet perfume of tiny flowers. This is the “Divine Order” which is precise. There are no mistakes since all physical qualities are already present within a tiny seed. This is how a huge oak-tree grows from a little acorn. This is why only three perfect “taad-golas” (galeli) come out of one shell – not two, not four, just three. This is because God is the greatest artist and architect who manifests in perfect geometrical and mathematical precision!!
Today, on this auspicious Jamshedi Navroze, whatever our station in life, whatever our virtues and weaknesses, let us rejoice with mother Nature. Let today be the new “dawn” in our life. May this year which is dawning in Nature bring the power of spiritual dawn and give us the peace that comes from understanding, the patience that results from knowledge, the devotion that springs from sacrifice and a sense of ONENESS in this world of different forms where everything is inter-connected in harmony!!
