Our dear friend and brilliant young Zoroastrian filmmaker Tanya Hoshi’s latest project, “Turning Tables“, will be having its World Premiere in Toronto at the Hot Docs International Documentary Festival. The film is about Classic Roots, a Powwow techno pioneer who integrates the sounds of his Anishinaabe heritage with electronic and house music. The film is directed by Chrisann Hessing, who partnered with Tanya to finance the film through BravoFactual, a subdivision of Bell Media.
Tanya Hoshi is a film and web series producer based in Toronto, Canada. She is an alumni of the Canadian Media Producers Association’s Screen Based Media Production Program as well as the Hot Docs Accelerator Program. Tanya loves producing stories that normally are not told on screen – Turning Tables gave her the opportunity to shine light on one of many positive stories about Indigenous mentors like Classic Roots.
Tanya is currently producing the web series “Blackout“, which she financed through the competitive Independent Production Fund and Ontario Media Development Corporation’s Interactive Digital Media Fund. She is also the Studio Coordinator at Shopify Media, where she coordinates national and international documentary films. When not working on her projects, Tanya mentors other aspiring filmmakers in Toronto.
Tanya is an alumni of the 2017 Return to Roots Program in India and was just recently a participant in the 1st World Zoroastrian Youth Leaders Forum in England. She is currently developing a documentary that will feature stories about Zoroastrians from around the world – this idea came to fruition during the forum.
