Investing in Gujarat: Parsi Connection

It is stupid if you are not in Gujarat: Ratan Tata

“It is stupid if you are not in Gujarat”, this is how the Tata Group chairman Ratan Tata described the advantage of investment in Gujarat. He recalled the association of Parsi community with Gujarat from the beginning of arrival of Parsis in the country and said that Gujarat was a happening state.

Ratan Tata who is also a chairman of Investment Commission of India was Chief Guest at the inauguration of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors Summit 2007. With this position of Tata there could not be any better appeal for investment in Gujarat. He said that it is right time to be here.

In his eloquent speech Chief Minister Narendra Modi said that in last five years Gujarat has traversed a journey from “why Gujarat? to why not Gujarat?” He said that initially people used to ask why Gujarat. With his efforts to give right answer to people about why Gujarat he found people started welcoming with Hi Gujarat. Later they started saying why not Gujarat? And now people say Vibrant Gujarat.

Giving the idea of last two summits and the investments they have brought to the state Chief Secretary Sudhir Mankad said that in the Summit 2003 there were 76 MoUs signed. Of these there are 23 projects with investment of Rs. 23,000 crore on. 21 projects are at different stages of implementation.

In 2005 Summit 227 MoUs were signed. Of these 84 projects have become operational, while 85 are in different stages. As a result of success of these two summits the third summit has brought representatives of 47 foreign organisations, 8 delegations and 100 businessmen from India and abroad.
