Mumbai, Aug 31 (IBNS): An Indian Navy commander died in the sea off Mumbai on Monday while trying to rescue his colleague who was swept away by the sea.
The incident happened when one of four sailors working on the hull of submarine Shankush, a Shishumar class submarine, got swept away.
The officer, Commander Firdosh Mogal, tried to save the sailor, but another wave swept off Mogal, defence ministry sources said on Tuesday.
The Navy and Coast Guards were immediately called in for rescue and though they managed to save the sailor, the officer died after his head hit the hull of the submarine.
Mogal’s body was later recovered and a case of accidental death registered in the nearby police station.
