He was suffering from cancer of the bile duct and non-alcoholic cirrhosis. Irani’s daughter Sanaaya told TOI, “He was unwell for the last four months and his health deteriorated in the last few weeks. He breathed his last at home.”

Irani started his practice at the Pune cantonment court. “He was the only voice of poor citizens in Pune cantonment and fought cases for people cutting across communities,” recalled his friend and lawyer M V Akolkar. “He was an expert in cantonment law matters,” Akolkar said.

Irani was the president and trustee of the Poona Parsi Panchayat from 1992 to 2010.

“He will be mostly remembered for his clarity of thoughts on legal matters. He always gave hope to the distressed citizens of the cantonment and the community,” said Sanaaya. With a legal practice for over four decades, Irani fought cases in the district civil court, defence estate, the Bombay high court and consumer courts.
