Spenta R. Wadia was recently inducted as an International Honorary Member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, USA at a function in Boston in September 2024.

Spenta R. Wadia is the Founding Director of the International Centre for Theoretical Sciences of the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research in Bangalore, where he is the Infosys Foundation Homi Bhabha Chair Professor. His research focuses on elementary particle physics, quantum gravity and string theory. He is a Fellow of all the Science Academies of India, a Distinguished Alumnus of St Xavier’s College, Mumbai, and a recipient of the J. C. Bose Fellowship of the Government of India. He graduated with a PhD in physics from the City University of New York under the guidance of Bunji Sakita and was previously at the Enrico Fermi Institute, University of Chicago.

Spenta Wadia’s main research interests are in quantum field theory, statistical mechanics, string theory and quantum gravity. There is considerable overlap of these areas in light of the gauge-gravity duality of string theory. His other scientific interests are in complex systems including cross-disciplinary biology.
