The Palghar farmhouse of a retired Indian Air Force officer was allegedly burgled early Sunday . Among the valuables stolen is his US passport which is a priced possession on the grey market.

Squadron Leader Boman Irani (76), who is a Indo-Pak war veteran, retired from the Pathankot division of the air force in 1977 and has been living alone in the farmhouse in Alyali, Palghar, for the last five years.

On Saturday , Irani was away at his sister’s place in Dahanu.His caretaker Chandra Prakash called him on Sunday morning informing that the house had be en ransacked. Prakash’s servant room was allegedly locked from outside by the thieves. He managed to come out through the window.

Irani found Rs 80,000 and 100 US dollars missing. His US passport, laptop, a 42-inch LED TV and other valuables are missing. Irani’s licenced 357 Magnum revolver was spared while his gun cleaning kit was stolen.

API Deepak Salunke of Palghar police said a case of house break-in has been registered.Police suspect the role of an insider who knew that Irani would be away over the weekend.
