The Tardeo police on Wednesday arrested a 28-year-old salesman from a shop in Heera Panna for selling shoes that had religious symbols of Parsees etched over them. The accused has been booked under section 295(A) of the IPC for deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs.

Activist Khorshed Meherjee said that she got a tip off about such shoes being sold in a shop at Heera Panna a couple of days ago. “I got information about the misuse of our Zoroastrian religious symbols. To verify, I went to the shop on July 24 and was shocked to see our “Asho Farohar” pendants attached on men’s shoes. After the confirmation I along with Nevile Broacha, President of south Mumbai BJP (Parsi cell) and several others people went to the shop again on Wednesday afternoon and brought the salesman to the Tardeo police station. He told police that the shoes were manufactured in Agra. Further probe is on,” she said.
