The peace, tranquillity and oneness with Ahura Maz The peace, tranquillity and oneness with Ahura Mazda that we experience when we gaze upon an atash is an inexplicable feeling. The silhouette of the aesthetic Afarganyu with the warm burning pile of sukhad topped by the glory of our very alive and sacred Atash is a special image in our hearts and minds. We at Parsi Khabar wish to bring you an opportunity to replicate this feeling on a small scale with our custom hand made porcelain glazed tea light holders bearing the Afarganiu and Atash. A candle inside the holder lights up the translucent design on the surface resulting in an intensely heartwarming image. Bring one into your personal spaces and enjoy the effect that light has on your senses. You’ll see the Atash come alive in your own homes. Each holder is modeled by hand and each afarganiu and atash is painstakingly drawn on after which it is glazed and fired. Every single one of these limited edition tea light holders is made for Parsi Khabar by Swaroopa GS. She is a Chennai, India based pottery and crochet artist who pours her soul into her work. Since every single piece is handmade, no two pieces are exactly identical. It serves the Zoroastrian Association of California which includes four regions, Orange County, LA County, San Diego County, and the Inland Empire. Most members drive anywhere between 20 minutes to 2 hours to get to the hall. ⛪️ It used to be a church. Over the years, they have made it their own by removing the pews, adding a projector and sound system, and changing the decor to match the Zoroastrian religious aesthetic. 🙏🏼 They had two major donors, both of which have a room named after them. The Arjani Hall is named after the generous donation from the Arjani Family. The Hong Kong Room after the Zoroastrian Association of Hong Kong. The Arjani Hall is the main hall where they host their events. 🛝 They have made many renovations to the outside, including a playground for the children which is currently in the works. 👩🏻‍🍳The kitchen took lots of renovation. The church had it equipped for light refreshments like bagels and coffee. ZAC uses it to heat and store food for large functions and chopping of chashny after jashans. ⛲️ The water fountain is dedicated to our friend Zarmehr who passed away in 2014. 🔥 The prayer hall was built in 2016. They built it to resemble the agiaries in India. The major sponsor was the Minocherhomji Family. ZAC’s mobeds, Zarir and Zerksis Bhandara take very good care of it. They have many boi ceremonies, jashans, and yearly mukhtad prayers. 🎉 Every year they host Navroze and Pateti, the two largest functions. In addition, they have smaller events almost weekly, including prayer classes for children, humbandagies (group prayer sessions), jashans about twice a month, and meetings. This talk is the Professor Kaikhosrow D. Irani Memorial Lecture 2022 and made possible by ZAGNY & FEZANA. Ervad Justice Rohinton Fali Nariman (Retd.) was the judge of the Supreme Court of India from July 7, 2014, to August 12, 2021. This crowning achievement was preceded by many successively significant positions, including the role of the Solicitor General of India from July 27, 2011, to February 4, 2013. Justice Nariman was recognized as one of five “World Heroes” by Access Now, an International Human Rights Organization, for his concurring judgment in K. S. Puttuswamy versus Union of India (2017), recognizing the Rights to Privacy as a Fundamental Right under Art. 21 of the Constitution of India. He is an expert in Comparative Constitutional Law and Civil Law. Justice Nariman obtained his LL.M. degree from Harvard Law School, with his thesis on Affirmative Action: A Comparison between Indian and US Constitutional Law. We intend to make choices and decisions in a manner that is accurate and fair while also being in our own interest and that of our communities. Research from the last fifty years has challenged the possibility that we actually do so. Specifically, we now know that our actions can be inconsistent with our values and obstruct the very goals we strive for as individuals and professionals. We now know that these errors are a function of our evolution, the architecture of our minds, and the social contexts in which our decisions unfold. Our behavior is inconsistent with our own values because our decisions are driven by “implicit” preferences and beliefs. This session is participatory, involving educational and even entertaining hands-on exercises. It is geared toward providing insights into how our minds work, and to reveal the often surprising and even perplexing manner in which our minds work. The purpose of the seminar is to reveal mental blind spots and create awareness so that we can align our values with behavior. Professor Banaji will advance ideas about where such bias comes from and how to think about “outsmarting” our own minds in order to reach the goals we have chosen, with deliberation, for ourselves and our future. Speaker Mahzarin R. Banaji Mahzarin R. Banaji is a Richard Clarke Cabot Professor of Social Ethics in the Department of Psychology at Harvard University. Mahzarin was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the British Academy, the National Academy of Sciences, and the American Philosophical Society. She is Herbert Simon Fellow of the American Academy of Political and Social Science. He had just returned from collecting wood, like many of his friends; mostly picking branches from fast growing trees like poplars and willows, planted along streams. Pamiri people from this region used to follow Zoroastrianism, one of the world's oldest continuously practiced religions. Zoroastrianism is still practiced in countries like Iran and India. Its followers believe fire and sun represents God's light or wisdom. Pamiri people only converted to Islam in the 11th century.
