THERE may be only about 200 Parsis in Singapore, but the ethnic group of Persian origin is making its presence known.

Fourteen women from the Parsi Zoroastrian Association will present a fashion show this weekend at the Colourful Heritage event at Fort Canning Park. They are one of 13 ethnic minority groups residing here who have been invited to take part in the event, which is part of The Arts Unlimited series organised by National Parks Board.

Other items include colourful dances by the women of the Singapore Gujarati Society, a showcase by Peruvian musicians, belly dancing by the Middle Eastern Music and Dance Association, and an introduction to Peranakan women’s costume, the Nonya kebaya.

Traditional food prepared by the various groups will also be available. There will even be a demonstration of how to make traditional Malay pineapple tarts.
