Dr. Yazdi Maneksha Italia, renowned microbiologist who pioneered the development of India’s inaugural Sickle Cell Anemia Control Program has been awarded the Padma Shri Award on the eve of Republic Day 2024
Dr. Yazdi Italia, Ph.D. is a Translation Scientist. Since 1978, He is one of the pioneers and Ex. Hon. Director (2006 – 2012) of India’s first Sickle Cell Anemia Control Program of Government of Gujarat. This program was awarded Prime Minister’s Award as a model project for all India level. He is co-investigator for many ICMR research projects including Indo-US NBS project.
In 2022 he was bestowed an Award by the Government of Gujarat for his significant contribution in Health Services for Prevention and Control of Sickle Cell Anemia and Thalassemia. This award was presented to him by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel.
