Members of Parsi community celebrated the Pateti (Parsi New Year) with fervour here today.
Parsis visited the Fire Temple in traditional dresses and greeted each other with sweets.
J H Parabia, a senior citizen and leading member of the Parsi community told that even members from other communities greeted them presenting a picture of communal harmony.
Ninety-six-years-old country’s first woman photographer, Homai Vyarawalla, a Parsi, was overjoyed to become the proud owner of Tata’s Nano car on the eve of Pateti.
She thanked the bank authorities for making the car purchase a smooth and hassle free affair.
She also thanked Tata for allotting the car to her on priority basis.
City mayor Balkrishna Shukla also greeted members of Parsi community on this occasion.
Parabia thanked Gujarat government for including "Pateti festival" in the list of holidays of the year.
The community had taken up the matter with chief minister Narendra Modi after the festival was removed from the list of holidays several years ago.
