The play has been written and directed by Meherzad Patel and stars Sabira Merchant, Danesh Irani, Nauheed Cyrusi, Azmin Mistry, Sajeel Parakh among others.
Keeping with the tradition of Parsi theatre, the play promises to be a visual treat as well. Fali Unwalla has designed a revolving set, which recreate the grandeur of royal living. This visual treat promises to give audiences a complete feel of British royalty.
“We make a conscious effort to promote unique theatre and great talent. The Buckingham Secret is our fifth production and we are pleased with the way the production is shaping up. It is an exciting new play with great scope and we are looking forward to see it go places,” says Khushroo N. Suntook, Chairman of NCPA.
But unlike previous production, NCPA chose their fifth production as a comedy. Deepa Gahlot, head programming theater and films, NCPA explains, “Ever since the NCPA started producing its own plays, the attempt has been to give audiences a different experience each time. Just after the spiritually uplifting Tuesdays With Morrie and the musical love story Club Desire, we thought of doing a comedy. Meherzad Patel and his Silly Point Productions team came up with a hilarious and original concept and we were on. Hope the audiences enjoy it as much as we did while putting up the production.”
Meherzad Patel, who has earlier written and directed several plays including the The Class Act and Rusty Screws says, “The Buckingham Secret was an idea meant to make people laugh. It’s got the excitement of everyone and even though the play is called The Buckingham Secret, it is no secret that this is a big deal for everyone from Sabira Merchant who plays the Queen to Fali Unwalla and his magnanimous set, to Mr Suntook and everyone at the NCPA who has made this project more than just a play. It’s now a royal performance waiting to happen.”
