Muncherji Cama has been elected in the Bombay Parsi Punchayat bypolls to fill the seat left vacant on the resignation of one trustee. This result has been reported in various forums.

At the end of the six-week voting exercise, Vispi Wadia writes on Facebook:

It was a long & gruelling campaign spread over six weeks. The counting of the ballots is scheduled for 4th July (Monday) from 10 am at Khareghat Colony. The final result would be out by Monday evening itself; however the trends would be evident within couple of hours of start of the counting process. Would certainly keep you all posted.

The Vote count at five venues spread over three weekends is as follows:

1. Khareghat Colony – 1905
2. Cusrow Baug – 1587
3. Rustom Baug – 1934
4. Dadar Parsi Colony – 1989
5. Bharucha Baug – 1549

TOTAL VOTES – 8964

More updates to follow as news filters in.

Congratulations to Muncherji Cama, and we now wish and pray that the BPP will get back to doing what it is supposed and expected to do: work for the unity and betterment within the Parsi community in Mumbai.

Munchi was by far the better contestant.  But i pray and hope that the fiasco of Ruston Baug is not repeated in the board room. There be a code of conduct.Let it be written on the board

In this house Obedience vanquish Disobedience,
    Vanquish niggard temper,
Word true spoken, word false spoken,
‘Asha’ smite the ‘druj’ for ever.

“so shall it be written so shall it be done”

WAPIZ  did have the opportunity to spare the community funds from this Election drama by agreeing to a Consensus candidate but as in 2008 it got two of its members elected by sheer chance, it displayed overconfidence and the end result is for all to see.The lady lost because of two factors, firstly being a wife of a sitting Trustee known for lack of punctuality in attending Board Meetings  and secondly for a bad ‘packaging’ the name WAPIZ. Now  Trustees of WAPIZ can learn the hard way HOW TO LOSE FRIENDS AND CREATE OPPONENTS.

Independent candidate Muncherji Cama has been elected to the 7th vacant seat as the new Trustee of the Bombay Parsee Panchayet and emerged victorious with a count of 5134, over-scoring his main WAPIZ rival by 1624 votes who garnered 3510 ballots out of an overall total of 8829 with 28 ballot papers declared invalid. Candidates 1 and 4 secured 101 and 28 votes respectively. Except for Rustom Baug where the lady acquired a meager 169 votes more than him, Cama’s tally outran hers at all the four other polling centers. Moving northbound the winner’s steadily ascending leads were Khareghat Colony 538 votes, Cusrow Baug 975, Rustom Baug 806 (a negligible dip), DPC 1296, Bharucha Baug 1624 to clinch the winning spot first past the finishing line. Congratulations  to the man of the hour and saviour of BPP for a deserving victory.
