Malabar Hill MLA Mangal Prabhat Lodha, who spent Rs10 lakh from his funds to repair three pavilions inside the Parsi Towers of Silence in Malabar Hill, seems to have hurt the sentiments of the community. The renovated halls were inaugurated by Lodha on August 22. A plaque with the MLA’s name has been displayed in the building.

The 300-year old Towers of Silence cemetery, also called Doongerwadi, is managed by the Bombay Parsi Punchayet (BPP), the community’s apex representative body. Dinshaw Mehta, BPP chairman, said, "The funds were a way of appreciating the contribution made by the community."
Lodha said, "Government funds belong to all communities, so why should there be an objection to the use of MLA funds for repairing buildings in the Towers of Silence?"
However, some Parsis feel that the BPP is breaking a 300-year-old tradition of not accepting help from outside the community. "The Bombay Parsi Punchayet which has a corpus of crores of rupees, has taken a small amount from the MLA to repair a pavilion. It has hurt our sentiments," said Viraf Kapadia, a resident of Godrej Baug.
But other community groups have stated there is nothing wrong in using public funds. Vispy Wadia of the Association for Revival of Zoroastrianism said, "The money was taxpayers’ money and not the MLA’s own funds. We are thankful for the help."
I think such a small amount shouldnt have been accepted by BPP. BPP can easily afford to renovate the pavillions from BPP Trust money. Also, If Lodha wanted he could have just given monetary help without a plaque with his name being displayed in the building.

One can understand the approach of some Trustees but two Trustees from WAPIZ who got elected on the premise of “PRESERVING & PROTECTING need to explain their stand to the community on this vexatious issue. Why did they not oppose acceptance of this measly sum from an MLA?
Is this how WAPIZ backed Trustees intend to convince the community members that their surreptitious silence will be forgotten and forgiven at the time of next election. Both of them have forfeited the confidence of the Electorate which voted for them and I fully support the demand for resignation of ALL the B. P.P. Trustees who accepted this ’dole’ more particularly WAPIZ affiliated ones as they have neither Protected or Preserved even our community’s self respect and dignity

last years balance sheet of bpp shows Rs 2 crores as legal expenses. This could have been easily minimised to few lacs of rupees if 7 trustees sits together every day and reduces five court cases per day as out of court settlement. I am sure the number of court cases will reduce, legal expenses will reduce, time and efforts of staff and advocates will reduce and parsees will stay peacefully. Only WISDOM is required.

I represent the company which knows this scamster family perfectly well. My bosses received Rs 50 lacs cheque, overnight 16 cars were sold to repay his liabilities done in the bombay stock exchange. I can recollect this incident in front of my eyes completely clearly. They have amassed crores of rupees unaccounted money which they have transfered to usa in another son’s name. I am also aware that government is investigating the complete scam. They have also bribed various government officials in charity commissioner’s office too.It;s a well known fact. I suggest you take active interest in the corruption affairs of parsee community and keep your eyes and ears open and help parsee community and help government of india to remove corruption.
